We are sad over the loss of America's dad

Bob Saget passed away at the age of 65. He was an American actor best known for playing Danny Tanner on the sitcom Full House, and the host for America's Funniest Videos from 1989 to 1997. Born in Philadelphia, Penn. on May 17, 1956, the actor was found unresponsive in a Florida hotel room.

Just like the death ofBetty White on December 21,2021, many Americans are reeling at the news of Saget's passing. Many grew up watching Saget play a single dad who leaned on his family for support, learning family morals along the way.

Niki Patterson said she saw him as "America's dad."

"I remember when I was little at the end of the day, we would gather in the living room, watching Full House," Patterson said. "My parents would ask us questions about some ofthe episodes that held lessons in them. It was one of my favorite memories with my dad."

"He was the dad I always wished I could have had," Kashandra H all sa id. "I didn't know my dad well. I was raised by my grandparents and when I would watch Full House, I would always wish and dream that that was my crazy amazing and loving family."

"I didn't grow up with any male role models in my life," Stacie Pope noted. "My dad was in prison for 20+ years. I would watch Full House and love how those little girls had their dad, plus other male models. I would imagine myselfin their shoes and take to heart every dad speech/talk they did. I loved that show."

"I turned my karaoke machine into a TV and watched Full House on DVD every night in black and white," Rachel Jay said of Saget and the show. "I'd go to sleep to it. I had every season and can still repeat the words to almost all of the episodes."

Melissa Tweedy noted on how Saget 's character as Tanner h elped changed America's view on single dads.

"Danny was a single parent raising his children t o the best of his abilities," Tweedy said. "He knew he needed h elp and it came from his brother-in-law, J essie, and long-tine friend, Joey. He was America's single father . He changed the way people looked at single fathers."

Along with the squeakyclean character as Danny Tanner, Saget was also a raunchy standup comedian. Many fans remember both sides of Saget and appreciated how he was able to switch between the two.

"I saw both sides of Bob," Sylvia Sonnier said. "The sweet dad reminded me of my own father , and a brilliant comedian. Someone who wasn't afraid to be himself."

Amy Giaudrone said he encompassed many things for his audience.

"He was a smile, no matter the activity, he was always good for a smile," Giaudrone said. "He was the sad all of us hoped for on Full House. H e was the consummat e impromptu comedia n on America's Funniest Videos. He was consistently entertaining. May he rest eternal."

No matter how fans will remember Saget , either as the American dad or the raunchy comedian, he will be greatly missed.
