My name is Cyndi Reed, and I am currently the Secretary of the Texoma Fire Department Auxiliary. I was born and raised in Oklahoma City, along with four brothers. My mom was from California and my dad was from New York, sosettlinginOklahoma only made sense. We would alternate summer vacations between California and New York to spend time with our grandparents. We had a lot of fun growing up.
I’ve spent most of my life inOklahoma.ImovedtoNew Jersey for a short time, but I missed my family, so I moved back.Imarriedandhadason, Arthur, who is now 36 years old. We listened to Merle Haggard a lot back then, and when Merle came through town, we went to meet him. We also met Bonnie Owens, who invited us into her tour bus and visited with us as if we’d known each other for years. Merle asked if we were coming in for the show, but since our son was only 8 years old, the bar wouldn’t let us. The manager left the door by the stage open so we could watch the show and toward the end of the concert, one of the band members motioned for Arthur to come in and seated him on the floor right by the stage. This was so cool and such a wonderful memory.
I was a single mom for several years and then met my husband, Monty, and together we have a son, Sam, who just turned 18. We came to Texoma a few times for weekendtripsandhadalotof fun. We bought a little vacation place in 2018 and spent almost every weekend here. In a short period of time, our little schnauzer decided he was done with the big city. He would refuse to “load up” and we’d have to physically put him in the truck so we could leave. So, in 2019, before the start of high school, we made Kingston our home. I was a surgery scheduler for several doctors at an outpatient hospital before moving here and I am so thankful that we moved here before Covid hit.
This is a great community and I think it's important to be part of it. I enjoy volunteering at the FBC Clothing House in Madill, as well as the Texoma Fire Districts Ladies Auxiliary. I’m also an election official. There are lots of activities and fundraisers to get involved with. In a small community, I think it’s important to be involved and you will always be appreciated. The volunteer fire departmentisalwayslooking for new volunteers so if you or anyone you know would be interested, please reach out to Todd Cissel. As for the ladies, we’d love to have you join us. You’ll meet friends you don’t even know you had.
