Store shuts down amid ABLE violations

The Willis One Stop, formerly namedMaddieJ’s,suddenly shut down this week. Residents noticed the Sheriff Department’spresence, along with multiple other enforcement agencies on November 8. Residents also noted crates of alcohol stacked up outside the location.

The location received a citation for a substantial amount for purchasing alcohol from places other than wholesale sellers in September of this year. Andrew Koester, the ABLE attorney, said since the violation citation was so substantial, the location’s owners and attorney decided to relinquish their alcohol and shut the store down.

According to the Oklahoma ABLE website, “Alcoholic beverages sold to retail customers (mixed beverage licenses, retail spirits licenses, retail beer licenses, retail wine licenses, public event licensees) must be purchased from a licensed wine & spirits wholesaler, beer distributor, holder of a small brewer selfdistribution, or holder of a winemaker self-distribution license. You CANNOT purchase alcoholic beverages from another retailer or from a wholesale club.”

If any store attempts to operate or sell alcohol after getting shutdownbyABLE,they will face criminal charges.
