A Texas resident had a complete change of luck on November 2. They woke up to the wonderful news that they were $3 million richer on Wednesday morning. On Tuesday night, the winning ticket was sold at the Enderby’s Gas Station in Whitesboro on US 377.
According to the Texas Lottery Commission, the Mega Millions jackpot was $119 million. The Powerball winningticketwasestimated at $1.2 billion.
An employee at Enderby’s said the winning was something completelyunexpected.
“I think completely and utterly shocked, just as we are,” Piper Dunn said in an interview. “It’s just a small town, small gas station that has been there for a long time, so it’s really cool. Especially, for the locals.”
The Texas Lottery began in 1992 and it offers multiple chances to win. There are multiple scratch-off games, and drawings. In 2022, the Texas Lottery broke an annual sales record for the twelfth consecutive year reaching nearly $8.3 billion.
The lottery winner isn’t the only one reaping the benefits from the winning ticket. According to the Texas Lottery Commission, stores that sell jackpot-winning tickets for the Mega Millions and Powerball receive one percent of the prize money. Not only do they receive a percentage of the winnings, customers typically flock to the store in hopes of being the next lucky winner.
