No nude beach coming to the county

Recent online chatter and viral TikTok videos have resurrected rumors of a nude beach, or even a full nude resort, coming to Marshall County, particularly near Lake Texoma. The speculation traces back several years but resurfaced lately, along with claims falsely attributing support from The Madill Record.

Here’s what’s real and what would be needed if such a resort ever became a possibility. In March 2019, a spoof article titled “Nude Beach coming to Marshall County on Lake Texoma” emerged onChannel45News,aprank news site designed to mimic real headlines and fool social media users.

It announced a council consideration to convert the Cumberland Cove resort into a nude beach. However, investigative fact-checkers later confirmed the story was a hoax; no reputable source, official county document or park authority supports it.

Despite this, the rumor has lingered, amplified by social media speculation and claims of a local news outlet endorsement that never existed. Turning any part of Lake Texoma or Marshall County into a nude beach resort is far from straightforward.

County or state-level ordinances typically prohibit public nudity unless explicitly exempted. A public nudity ordinance would need amendment or exception, land designated for park or recreational use would need rezoning to permit a secluded and clothing-optional space.

Also, any development along the lakeshore triggers environmental review and permits (e.g., for wastewater, erosion control, shoreline disturbance), planners would needbroadapprovalfromresidents, propertyowners, business leaders, andneighboring communities, and adequate funding would be necessary to build facilities, manage facilities and meet safety and liability standards. Although Marshall County has no nude resort, Oklahoma does offer legal, clothing-optional destinations.

Oaklake Trails Naturist Park in Depew (Creek County), nearTulsaandOklahoma City is a family-friendly, American Association for Nude Recreation-affiliated, 400+ acre resort with cabins, RV sites, pools, trails, monthly events, a sauna and a café. Oklahoma Naturists, located in Stuart, is an adultonly B&B and winery, also affiliated with the AANR.

These facilities operate underprivatelandownercontrol, enforce strict clothingoptional policies, background checks and rules to ensure non-sexual, respectful naturist communities. While the legal and procedural hurdles are high, a private nude resort could theoretically open in Marshall County if a developer acquires suitable privatelandawayfrompublic beaches, thepropertyfitszoning and environmental laws, the county grants special permits and local residents and stakeholders support the project.

Any such development would require transparency, legal scrutiny and significant investment, not the product of TikTok rumors. No nude beach or resort is planned, supported, or approved in Marshall County. The Tik-Tok rumors and prank news sites are misleading.

Toopensomethingsimilar in Marshall County would involve multiple regulatory, environmental and social hurdles. Until then, the rumor remains precisely what it appears: a falsehood.
