LaJeanne Reid of La-Jeanne’s Plants ‘N Things of Enos was the guest speaker for the Madill Rose Garden Club February meeting.
Mrs. Reid spoke on different cactus and succulent plants for your home and garden. She spoke on landscaping your garden with different textures, colors, sizes, graphics, and shapes of containers that can bring a new fresh look to your home gardens.
Susan Patton, Club President presided over the February 6 meeting at 10:00 A.M. at the home of Kaye Jay with the co-hostess, Becky Ninemire. Pledge of Allegiance and New Conservation Pledge were recited in unison led by Judy Parkey. Doris Farris presented a devotion using the theme of cultivating our faith with love, compassion, and kindness, just like you cultivate your garden with enriched soil, fertilizers, cultivation, and water. Minutes and Treasurer Report from the November meeting were presented.
Butterfly coloring contest entries are due by February 20th. Please contact Susan Patton or Judy Parkey if your child is interested in entering the contest.
Discussion was held on associate and honorary memberships. Susan will appoint a committee to discuss the club’s options for our members who are no longer active members.
Judy made a motion to have a new “Yard of the Month” sign constructed before April. Mary Jane Lowery will contact J & I Manufacturing for the cost of the sign.
The following dates were announced to the club mem bers. February 18-Oklahoma State Garden Spring Meeting for State and District Presidents, March 21-Gardening School at University of Oklahoma, Norman 8-3, April 17-18-Bryan County Master Gardener’s Show and Sale at Bryan County Fairgrounds, Durant-Contact Linda Green, and May 1-2 Oklahoma State Garden Club Meeting at Atoka.
Two new members were recognized at the meeting, Sue Shilling and Loni Taylor. We are looking forward to getting to know these ladies.
Kaye and Becky served cookies, cheeseball and crackers, fresh fruit, and homemade chocolate covered cherries, juice, coffee, and water to Sandy Baker, Willa Dean Caldwell, Doris Farris, Linda Kaye Green, Mary Jane Lowery, Judy Parkey, Susan Patton, Sue Shilling and one guest LaJeanne Reid.
