Last month, 11-year-old Madill resident Timmy Venable caught a memorable catch at City Lake in Madill. After three years of regularly fishing at City Lake, Timmy caught a bass.

Amy Venable, Timmy’s mom, said the bass was about 7 lbs., but wasn't sure.

”We think it was about 7lbs., don’t know for sure we catch and release so we weren’t able to weigh it.”

Venable said that her son usually goes fishing on a daily basis with or without his dad, Tim Venable.

“He has been going nearly every day for the last three years,' she said. 'They usually use kool aid marinated chicken but that day he used live goldfish that he had bought at a bait shop in Kingston” Timmy, who was excited to talk about his big catch, said this wasn’t his first fish. It may not have been his first fish, but it was his first decent-sized one.

“I caught a small perch the first year I started fishing out there,' Timmy said. 'I also caught a fishing pole once.”

Timmy said he was about togiveupwhenhishardwork paid off.

“I was getting bored and started reeling it in and saw I had a catch,' Timmy said. 'It got caught up so I had to wade into the water and that is when I could see I had caught something big. I released it back in for the next person to catch.”
