The Oklahoma Highway Patrol held their 66th Academy graduation ceremony on Thursday, July 16. This particular ceremony was not a typical one, and it was not just because of COVID-19 guidelines.
It had five legacies in the graduation class. Four of the cadets had fathers who were troopers, and one was a third generation legacy; his father and grandfather were troopers.
Garrett Schulze, a 25-yearold from Kingston was the third generation legacy graduate.
Garrett graduated from Kingston High School in 2013, then enlisted in the Navy. He spent five years in the Navy as a First Class Master At Arms, and even was deployed in the Persian Gulf for two years.
His father, Bruce Schulze retired from the OHP in 2005. He was in the 39th Academy, and Garrett’s grandfather was in the 9th Academy graduating class – the first academy after World War 2.
