The Kingston School system is reaching out to Marshall County resident to vote for a new school bond. Voting will be held on the August 27, 2024 at local polling locations.
Therequestedbondmoney will be used for a variety of upgrades that involve safety, demolition and re-construction of an education building, and new roofs. They plan to eliminate labor-demanding routine upkeep of their sports fields with new turf, as well as some great new additions that will aid in the overall safety, functionality, educational opportunities and the aesthetic to their campus.
The addition of a safe room at the elementary school is also in the bond proposal. As it stands now, during a dangerous bout of weather or a hazard that would become and issue for safety, the children and staff at the elementary school have to evacuate to the high school for shelter.
Making a trip like that increases the chances for additional danger. The people of Marshall County don’t have to look very far back in time to remember that Kingston has history with dangerous weather.
For residents who might be worried about the bond increasing taxes, school officials said that won't be an issue.
“Kingston Public Schools proposed bond will have a 0% tax increase,” said school officials.
