Kingston Town Council

The monthly Kingston City Council meeting was held on Tuesday, November 8, at the Kingston Town Hall. There were several items on the agenda for discussion.

The first item was whether the City of Kingston would take over maintenance of the sewer system at The Sunray Ranchettes, as proposed by Verna Shivers on behalf of her family. The city will not be taking over the sewer system due to financial concerns.

The next item, proposed by Kingston Chief of Police Kasey Cox, was to use the old city dumpat78KnobbhillRoadasa private use firearm range. This would be used by the Kingston Police Department for training purposes and would be closed off to the public.

It was proposed that a picnic table and a shed, for storage of training items, could be obtained through donations. There will be a “U” shaped berm formed with four lanes to be able to train multiple people at a time for pistol training; shotguns and A.R. ‘s would not be allowed in the range.

Mayor Gluck and the rest of the council motioned the items be tabled for further review of the cities liability of owning a firearm range. There was also concern about any nuisance violations as there are houses close by.

The final item, proposed by Chief Cox, was that the front door of Kingston Town Hall be updated for handicapped accessibility. Cox suggested having a wall switch installed to allow for more accessibility for those that may need it and to meet requirements set out by the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The city council and Mayor Gluck requested the item be tabled at this time to allow for more research into how to carry out the request in regard to possibly redoing the existing concrete walkway and wheelchair ramp.
