Kingston’sboysbasketball team claimed fourth and the girls were consolation titlists in the rugged Dale Invitational last weekend.
The Redskins toppled Elgin, 59-39, in their opener ahead of a 56-33 setback to Class 4A’s 12th ranked Oklahoma Christian and 68-56 loss to 3A’s 10th rated Washingtoninthethirdplace matchup.
In the girls’ bracket, the seventh ranked Lady Redskins fell to 20th rated Kiefer, 54-48, but bounced back with a 48-29 victory over Byng and 60-39smashingofOklahoma Christian for the consolation title.
Both Kingston teams were slated to close out the pre-Christmas schedule earlier this week against rival Madill.
Girls
Coach Chad Rumer’s unit battled toe-to-toe with Kiefer through a 16-all first quarter deadlock before a 9-8 edge in thesecondframegavethema narrow one-point edge at intermission. Taylie Wiebener andJoleyHeydoneachtallied six points in the first stanza and Cassidy Walker pumped in nine in the half to spur the offensive charge.
Kiefer however answered by posting a 15-11 scoring advantage in the third period to take the lead for good and hit just enough free throws in the final frame to hold off the Lady Redskins down the stretch despite a strong offensiveshowingfromAvery Ludrick.
Heydon posted 14 points to lead three double digit scorers with Ludrick’s eight in the fourth giving her 13 for the game. Walker also pitched in 11.
It was an early low-scoring battle with Byng in the tournament consolation round as each notched only six first quarter points. Kingston found the answer with an 18-point second quarter blitz, fueled by nine points from Heydon, in grabbing a 24-11 edgeathalftimewhilepulling away from there.
Heydon again led the scoring with 19 with Jaci Herndon chipping in a season-high 15 points.
Herndon turned it on even more in the consolation finale, especially in a 20-3 third quarter burst to pull away from Oklahoma Christian. She canned five three pointers and wrapped up with a team-high 21 points.
Ludrickendedwith12and Walkerwasjustshyofdouble figures with nine points.
Boys
Kingston rode 12 first quarter points from Brock Rumer to an early edge over Elgin and steadily pulled away from there for the opening round triumph.
The Redskins led 18-15 after one period, 33-24 at halftime and 49-31 through three stanzas.
Rumer finished with 19 points in fueling the attack as Blane Henry also eclipsed double figures with 11. Sam Walker also chipped in nine with Reid Patterson scoring seven.
Coach Bobby McAdoo’s squad got off to a slow start against powerful Oklahoma Christian, trailing 15-3 through one quarter, and could never fully recover.
They rallied to within 32-26 at the end of three quarters but that’s as close as things got.
HaydenSeeneyandHenry pitched in nine points apiece to finish as the scoring leaders.
An early deficit was again the case against Washington as the Redskins trailed 3424 at intermission, but answered with a big second half behind the one-two punch of RumerandBurkhalterasthe two catalysts combined for 18 following the break.
They narrowed the gap to 50-43 entering the fourth quarter but it was the Warriors with an 18-13 push in the final frame to pull it out.
Rumer pitched in 12 and Burkhalter had 11 points to pacetheoffensethatincluded eight from Walker and seven by Patterson.
