Gulf of America?

On January 20, President Donald Trump signed a few executive orders. A few of them are aimed to restoring the death penalty and protecting public safety, restoring Freedom of Speech and ending federal censorship.

Anotheronewastochange thenameoftheGulfofMexico to the Gulf of America. Many people questioned the name change. According to the White House, the purpose is to restore “honor American greatness.”

“ It is in the national interest to promote the extraordinary heritage of our Nation and ensure future generations of American citizens celebrate the legacy of our American heroes.,” the executive order stated “The naming of our national treasures, including breathtaking natural wonders and historic works of art, should honor the contributions of visionary and patriotic Americans in our Nation’s rich past.“ The Gulf of Mexico has been called many things over the years. However, the earliest recording of it being called the Gulf of Mexico dates back to 1550 when the waters were still considered the Spanish Sea.

John R. Hebert, the chair of the United States Board of Geographic Names, received several requests from an individual to rename the area to the Gulf of America. Stephen Colbert called it the Gulf of America in a skit.

Another monument that received a name change was Mount McKinley. Known as the highest mountain peak in NorthAmerica,themountain was named Mount McKinley by a gold prospector in support of then-presidential candidateWilliamMcKinley. McKinley later became the 25th president.

In August 2015, the United States Department of the Interior changed the name to Denali. Trump signed the executive order changing the name back to Mount McKinleytohonortheformer president.
