This year, we are gearing up for an extraordinary 4th of July celebration, marking 250 years of our nation’s independence. It's a holiday that resonates deeply with all of us, filled with joy and patriotic spirit. However, it's essential to remember another significant date in June—Flag Day, observed on the 14th.
In honor of this occasion, American Legion Post #99 in Madill is organizing a special flag planting ceremony on June 13th at 9 AM at Woodberry Cemetery. This event aims to pay tribute to the brave veterans resting there. Volunteers will work diligently to locate the graves of all veterans and place an American flag beside each headstone.
Participants are invited to meet at the Fellowship Hall before heading to the cemetery, ensuring everyone comes together for this meaningful tribute. Families who have a veteran buried at Woodberry are warmly invited to join us and collect a flag for their loved ones. This act of remembrance not only honors their sacrifice but also reinforces the values of patriotismandgratitudethat our flag symbolizes.
American Legion Post #99 is experiencing growth, now proudly including a Ladies Auxiliary. Our commitment remains steadfast: to serve veterans and their families in any way possible.
As we approach June 14th, let us take a moment to remember and pray for our veterans, recognizing their unwavering service and dedication to our country. Join us in celebrating both our independence and the heroes who fought for it.
