A local family got more than they bargained for after purchasing a storage container. On June 17, 2026, theMarshallCountySheriff’s Office was contacted by a resident in the southcentral part of Marshall County.
MC Sheriff Donald Yow said the reporting party said they were cleaning out the storage container when they came across a possible exploding device. The item was contained in an area, so Yow said there didn’t seem to be any immediate threat to other citizens.
MCSO took pictures and contacted the Oklahoma HighwayPatrolBombSquad to come out and evaluate the device. Once they arrived on scene, the OHP Bomb Squad determined the two rounds were of no danger; one was broken and the other was a training round.
Yow said it is common for people to collect such items.
“These types of relics are often collected by many people,” Yow said. “They know the story behind it.”
Yow also thanked the resident for calling it in and said it is better to err on the side of caution to keep everyone safe. He also said that they “will treat it as real until we know for sure.”
