A sex offender who absconded 15 years ago arrested in Marshall County
David Smith, a felon on the run out of Texas, was arrested on December 13. The Marshall County Sex Offender Compliance Deputy received a call about Smith who was a Registered Sex Offender who had moved from Texas.
Officers began looking into the claims about Smith not registering for quite some time. They discovered that Smith had not registered as a Sex Offender in Texas or Oklahoma since 2007. The MCSO was unaware that Smith had even moved into the county.
Officers had a possible location for Smith in the southeast sector of the county. When deputies arrived at the location, the suspect initially lied to officers and used his father’s information.
Smith,a65-year-oldmale from Kingston, was arrested without incident and is currently facing charges for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender, and Falsely Personating Another to Create Liability. Smith could also possibly face charges from Texas.
An online search found priors for Indecency with a Child, DUI, No Driver’s License, TransportinganOpen Container, and Speeding.
A trio of suspects arrested after allegedly casing a residence
Three Marshall County residents are facing charges after allegedly getting caught casing a house. The Marshall County Sheriff’s Office was asked to watch a vacanthouseinthesouthern sector of the county. No one was supposed to be in it, but there had been some activity around it.
The Sheriff’s Office received a call about possible suspicious activity around the residence. Luckily, the officer wasn’t too far from the residence and was able to answer rather quickly.
As the deputy pulled into the driveway, he observed a black pickup leaving the residence. The deputy activated his emergency lights, but the truck attempted to flee.
Apparently, the driver had a change of heart, because he decided to stop for the deputy. Other deputies arrived on scene and iden- tified all three suspects as StevenReilly,MichaelWyche and Shelia Pierson.
The deputy alleged that one of the suspects admitted to casing the empty house but becamescaredwhentheysaw the deputy’s lights. Officers detained the suspects and searched the vehicle.
Deputies found a loaded firearm, drugs, baggies and a scale. Deputies also discovered that two of the suspects had outstanding warrants. All three suspects were booked into the Marshall County Detention Center.
Reilly, a 33-year-old male from Kingston is facing chargesforPossessionofCDS with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. An online search found priors for Possession of CDS and Driving Under Suspension.
Pierson, a 40-year-old female from Madill was arrested for Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of a Firearm After the Formal Conviction of a Felony or During Probation, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. An online search only found traffic violations.
Wyche, a 33-year-old male from Madill was arrested for Possession of CDS with the Intent to Distribute and Possession of a Firearm After the Formal Conviction of a Felony. An online search found priors for Conspiracy, Unlawful Use of a Communication Facility in Facilitating the Commission of a Felony, Distribution of CDS, DUI, Trespassing, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Transporting an Open Container.
Social media assists in arrest
On December 9, the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department received a call regarding a burglary that occurred in the southern part of the county. Multiple citizens shared the event on social media and the suspect was identified as Thomas Blankenship. Once the MCSO identified the suspect, they began to attempt to contact the suspect to ask some questions.
Forsomereason,Blankenship walkedintotheKingston CityHall/KingstonPoliceDepartment but turned around and walked right back out. Kingston Police Chief Kasey Cox contacted MC Sheriff Donald Yow to confirm that they were currently looking for Blankenship.
Yow confirmed that they were in fact searching for the suspect. Chief Cox and another officer detained Blankenship and held him till Yow could arrive at the location.
Yow, Investigator Steve Beebe and Deputy Current traveled to Kingston and picked up the suspect. He was transported back to the MCSO and questioned. After questioning, Blankenship was arrested for Second-Degree Burglary, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession of a Credit Card Belonging to Another.
