A Marshall County couple is facing charges after an incident at Walmart. On July 2, at approximately 2:30 p.m., Madill Officer Joshua Paul was dispatched to the store in reference to an alleged theft.

Paul arrived on scene and spoke with Daniel Tal lack with the Walmart Asset Protection. Tallack told officers that he observed a couple, later identified as Charles and Eileen Read, stealing items from the store. Allegedly, the Reads were doing what is called “skip scanning.” This occurs when somebody will use the self-checkout and scan every other item. Tallack also alleged that the couple was tag switching during their checkout process.

Tallack said he made contact with the Reads and confronted them about the alleged theft. At first, the couple denied any wrongdoing. However, Tallack said that the couple later broke down and admitted to stealing the items due to dealing with financial struggles.

Tallack placed the Reads under Citizen’s Arrest and held them until officers could arrive and take them in custody. They were transported to the Marshall County Jail on charges of Obtaining Merchandise by Trick or Deception.
