The Town of Kingston is mourning the loss of a pillar of the community. Former Kingston Police Chief John Canoe died September 18 at the age of 75-years-old.

Canoe died after a battle with lung cancer. The former chief recently retired from the Kingston Police Department after dedicating 30 years to the Kingston Police Department, 28 of those were served as chief.

Chief’s last ride procession was held on September 22. Officers and emergency personnel from multiple agencies escorted Canoe from Madill to Kingston. His funeral was September 23, and they announced his final call on the police scanner at 4:00 p.m. on that day.

Kingston Police Chief John Bridgeman said the support from the community has been amazing, and he wanted to thank everybody for their support.
