'Blooms of Liberty' Campaign

The Madill Rose Garden Club is proud to announce the launch of its 'Blooms of Liberty' initiative, a community- wide beautification project celebrating the 250th anniversary of the United States. The club is calling on Marshall County residents and business owners to join the national celebration by transforming front yards and display entrances into patriotic showcases using red, whiteandblueplantings.

As part of a broader effort led by the National Garden Clubs, the Madill Rose Garden Club aims to create a 'living flag' throughout the city. This initiative follows the club's recent success in securing a Color Oklahoma grant to establish native wildflower displays at key community landmarks, including the Health Alliance Madill entryway and the FranDrummondCommunity Daycare Center.

'We want every street in Madill to reflect the spirit of 2026. By planting patriotic colors at our doorsteps, we are not just gardening; we are growing a tribute to our nation's history and a beautiful future for our children,' Club President Jayson Pruitt said. 'The planting and growing of the seeds will be an experiential learning opportunity for the children and with proper planting, mowing and replanting, will be enjoyed for generations.'' Recommended Patriotic Plantings for Oklahoma Gardens: To help residents get started, the club recommends the following hardy varieties that thrive in the local climate:

•Red: Geraniums, Salvia, Zonal 'Dark Red' Geraniums, and 'Mr. Lincoln' Tea Roses.

•White: Shasta Daisies, White Petunias, Alyssum, and 'Snowdrift' Supertunia.

•Blue: Blue Salvia, Lobelia, Bachelor’s Buttons, and Blue Star Juniper.

The club encourages residents to use these colors in creative ways, from tiered container displays at entryways to expansive 'waving flag' flower beds in front yards.
