Madill Fire Chief Mike Idleman was recently awarded the 25 Years of Service Award by the Oklahoma Municipal League. The OML is an organization that has long been dedicated to recognizing the commitment and service of municipal officials and employees across the state.
One of its key initiatives, the 25 Years of Service Awards program, honors individuals who have devoted at least a quarter-century to municipal government. While the exact inception date of the program is not recorded, it serves as a testament to OML’s dedication to celebrating long-serving municipal personnel.
To qualify for this prestigious recognition, an individual must have served in any municipal capacity for at least 25 years, whether continuously or cumulatively, across one or multiple municipalities. Eligible roles range from council members and mayors to finance directors, treasurer, and public safety officials.
Honorees receive a certificate and a lapel pin, symbolizing their service, and their names are inscribed in a permanent Honor Roll of Service album at the OML office. One such distinguished honoree was Idleman, who has dedicated over three decades to the fire service, including 25 years as a fulltime firefighter.
A lifelong resident of Madill, Idleman began his firefighting journey as a volunteer in 1991 before transitioning to a full-time role in 1999. His leadership and commitment to public safety led him to become Fire Chief in 2020.
Beyond his firefighting duties, he has actively contributed to the community, including serving in the Rotary Club of Madill. In recognition of his unwavering dedication, Chief Idleman was honored with the Oklahoma Municipal League’s 25 Years of Service Award at the Madill City Council meeting on May 11.
His career exemplifies the spirit of public service that the program seeks to celebrate—acknowledging individuals whose efforts enhance local governance and community well-being. His story stands as an inspiration for current and future municipal leaders, showcasing the impact of long-term dedication to public service.
