A Carter County man is in jail and facing multiple charges after leading officers on a high-speed chase. On February 9, a Marshall County deputy initiated a traffic stop on Highway 32 at approximately 5:30 a.m. While the deputy attempted to make contact with the driver, later identified as Evan Stewart, sped away. There was also a female passenger in the vehicle.
The deputy initiated the pursuit, chasing Stewart through Marshall and Love Counties. The deputy stated that Stewart was also driving erratically.
The Love County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the chase and set up roadblocks. They also prepared the tire deflation devices.
With Love County’s assistance, the Marshall County Sherriff’s Office successfully deployed the tire deflation equipment and disabled Stewart’s vehicle. Stewart veered off the road into a wooded area and fled on foot.
While Marshall County and Love County deputies set up a perimeter, the Ardmore Police Department arrived on scene with a K-9 unit. The K-9 successfully tracked and located Stewart. He was then arrested without incident.
Once investigators began digging into Stewart’s past, they found that he had an active felony warrant out of Carter County. He was also found to be in possession of a firearm, even though he was a convicted felon.
Investigators also determined that the female passenger was in the vehicle against her will and pregnant. Stewart is facing charges for Kidnapping, Child Endangerment, and multiple other charges.
