Hometown Heroes: Melissa Guevara

Melissa Guevara is a 25-year-old female originally from Madill, Okla. She joined the Army in December 2014, and currently holds the rank of Quartermaster Officer.

Guevara said her duties as Quartermaster consist of running “logistics operations for the Army.”

“We make sure we have the right gear, equipment, materials and systems we need for whatever operation or mission is to be accomplished,” she said.

She said that the title of officer means many things.

“Being an officer in the military can mean many things to me because your soldiers see you as a leader, a mentor, a role model, or even as a parent,” Guevara said. “As a leader, you hold a lot of responsibilities within the organization of the army.

You make it a priority of taking care of yourself and your soldiers’ well being. I always tell my soldiers my doors are open to whatever they need and I will try my best to help them.”

After Guevara completes her Captain Career Course, her title will change from QM to Logistics. As a LG Officer, she would be multifunctional in the QM, Transportation and Ordinance branches.

Guevara enlisted in the Army Reserves before graduating high school, and went to Basic Combat Training directly after graduation. After completing BCT, she went to Advanced Individual Training.

After completing her training, she enrolled into the University of Oklahoma and was offered a ROTC scholarship. She was part of the 3/378 REGT 1 BDE, 95th Training Division throughout college. After earning her bachelor’s degree, she was commissioned into the US Army as a Second Lieutenant.

She then attended QM Basic Officer Leaders Course in the fall of 2020. Upon completion of the QM BOLC, she was reassigned as Platoon Leader with the 910th QM Company.

Guevara noted that she “has something in the works” concerning her military future, and said that her main focus is to begin living.

“My main focus is to live in the present and enjoy life,” she said. “This is just the start of my life. I have so much more I want to accomplish both in my civilian and military life. However my end goal is to be a role model to the younger generation and be a [redacted] mom towards the end. And, of course, always make my parents proud.”
