Community mourns loss of Kingston grad

The Kingston Redskin faithful were stunned on Thursday morning to learn of a fatality accident involving one of their own. Britny Le’Ann Henderson, 19, of Kingston, died from injuries from a two-car accident on Highway 70 west of Durant. OHP reported that the sixteen year old driver of the other vehicle crossed over the centerline and hit Henderson. The collission is still under investigation. That driver was treated and released with non-life-threatening injuries.

Henderson was a graduate of KHS class of 2020. She was loved by her classmates and teachers, and coaches. She was a sophomore at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Although much more than an athlete, it is hard to separate the two.

She was a four-year starter for the Lady Redskin basketball team under Coach Chad Rumer. She was an important part of the most prolific Lady Redskin team in school history. In those years, she was a state finalist, area, regional and district champion. With those accolades, it goes without saying she was a leader on and off the court.

She was a tremendously hard worker, a great teammate, a very determined player who never seemed to be rattled in close games or stressful situations. In fact, that is where she excelled, she often had a big basket, or a defensive stop that affected the outcome of the game.

As of press time, plans are for a memorial service on Saturday with the time and location still pending. A memorial fund has been opened in her name at the First United Bank of Kingston. Our condolences to her family. She will be greatly missed.
