The Madill Wildcats took care of business over the weekend by taking the championship trophy in the Madill Winter Classic. Madill disposed of all three opponents they faced in the tournament and took the title. Wildcat forward Ethan Wilkerson was named MVP of the tournament, averaging a doubledouble in all three games.

Madill got their tourney started off with a low-scoring battle against the Boswell Scorpions and prevailed 3927. Madill held Boswell scoreless in the second quarter and held the Scorpions off the rest of the way to advance. Wilkerson was a one-man wrecking crew in that matchup, scoring 34 of the Wildcats 39 points.

Boswell just didn’t have an answer for the Madill big man. The Wildcats pulled down a team total of 28 rebounds, ten from Wilkerson and five each from Brylan James and Greg Padgett.

Next up for Madill was Purcell, who defeated Sulphur in the first round of play. The Wildcats knocked off the Dragons 57-45 to move on to the championship game. The Tigers used a well-balanced attack with solid outside shooting and elite interior play. Madill outrebounded the Dragons 29-15 in the game and defended the basket with eight blocks. Purcell would end up taking home the third-place trophy in the Winter Classic.

In the title game, the Wildcats handled the Ardmore Tigers 50-33 to hoist the trophy as champions. Both teams struggled from beyond the arc in this match, but Madill againwonthereboundbattle. Ethan Wilkerson dropped in 24 points and pulled down 16 rebounds in the victory. He broke the Madill Winter Classic scoring record with 82 points in three games, that was previously held by Boswell’s Damarius Henderson in 2004 with 79 points in the tourney. In addition to Wilkerson’s accolades, Madill’s Brylan James was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Wildcats are now 5-0 on the season so far, and 2-0 in district play.
