Wildcats mangle the Tigers in District Play

The Madill Wildcats didn’t have to wait for Friday the 13th and any bad luck to add any drama to their game, as they took the field last Thursday, October12 against Fort Gibson.The Wildcats were on the hunt for their first win of the season. Fort Gibson was looking to add to their 3-3 record on the year.

After a quiet opening quarter, the Wildcats drew first blood in the 2nd quarter with a 31-yard touchdown run by junior quarterback Eli Vinson. Vinson rolled out right but tucked it under and rambled for the touchdown weaving his way through the Tiger defense. Uziel Flores added the extra point to give the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.

The Wildcats kept the pressure on and added two more scores before the half as Flores booted two field goals, onefrom36andanotherfrom 28, to give Madill a 13-0 heading into the locker room.

The second half opened with an explosive play for the Wildcats, as junior running backHarlemHolmestookthe handoff and went wide right. Hewasabletoturnthecorner and jet up the sideline past the entire Tiger secondary for 75-yard touchdown burst. The PAT was tacked on by Flores to extend the Wildcat lead to 20-0 early in the 3rd quarter.

Fort Gibson finally got on the board with a 63-yard touchdown run by Brelynn Macomb to cut the Wildcat lead to 20-7.

Madill answered with another score of their own late in the 3rd quarter with a five-yard touchdown pass from Vinson to Miguel Fajardo in the back of the endzone. The extra point by Flores stretched Madill’s lead to 27-7.

The Tigers of Fort Gibson tried to make a comeback in the 4th quarter as their freshman quarterback Logan Bethel connected with Brody Hanson for a 61-yard touchdown strike, butting the Wildcat lead to 27-14.

The Tigers scored another touchdown late in the 4th quarter, but Madill held on to secure their first victory of the season and brought their record to 1-6. Fort Gibson falls to 3-4 for the year. Up next for Madill hosts the Stillwell Indians (2-5) on Friday, October 20.
