The Madill High School Cross Country traveled to Waurika for the 2021 OSSAA Regional Cross-Country Meet on Saturday, October 23. “We ran well today,” said head coach Cale Eidson. The high school girls took second overall and qualified as a team to run at the Cross-Country State meet at Edmond Santa Fe High School on October 30.
“The girls ran well and I’m proud the team qualified,” said Eidson. “Isabel won the region as an individual.”
Senior Isabel Sanchez is the regional champ running a time of 12:17.15. Senior Joslyn Stumlingbear took twelfth place (13:32.12); sophomore Korlee Cunningham-Martin made fourteenth place (13:40.72); freshman Yvette Ariciaga (14:04.76) came in twentieth; Kaytleigh Davis took twenty second place (14:07.57); freshman Kaia Henry (14:30.72); and senior Nathali Ibarra (14:47.46).
The boys did well at the meet, as well.
“We had two boys qualify for state,” Eidson said. “I’m proud of the boys’ team, they came in eighth overall.”
Senior Anthony Sanchez (18:35.58) took thirteenth place and freshman James Valadez (19:46.14) took twenty fifth, both boys qualified for the state meet. Sophomore Armando Gonzalez (20:08.55); sophomore Jared Gallegos (21:18.40); Freshman Jayden McCain (21:36.63); junior Cesar Moreno (22:57.73); and junior Saulo Castro (23:53.57).
“We are looking ahead to the state meet and hoping we all run well,” said Eidson.
