The Redskins took on the Silo Rebels on December 15. Coach Bobby McAdoo seemed determined to take advantage of Silo with 6’10” Senior Reed Cason and the plan worked flawlessly. He alsogotintothebenchearlyto give the starters a breather. That worked as well. The Redskins won 70 to 30.

In the first quarter, the Redskins were looking for their big man down low. The double team was on but that is not new for Cason. He responded with three buckets, one thunderous dunk. Sam Walker got away from the defense for two field goals. McAdoo was going to the bench early with the score fairly close. The Redskins lead was 10 to 4.

Cason kept up the pressure on Silo underneath. He had three more field goals and was 1 of 2 from the line. Parks Ratzlaff was driving to the bucket; he had a goal and was 2 of 2 from the line. Hayden Seeney got the start, rebounded and had a nice three pointer. That was enough to go to the locker room with a 24 to 11 lead.

Inthethirdquarter,Cason was shaking off defenders and dunking on them. He had four buckets and two were on rim shaking dunks. Ratzlaff, again, had a bucket and two free throws. Walker had a bucket as did Seeney. Eli Oliger and Ewan Weaver each had buckets. That was good for a 20-point quarter and the lead was at 44 to 20.

The fourth was like the third except worse for the Rebels. Before Cason was finished, he had two more field goals, one a two handed flush. He was also 2 of 2 from the line. He was done for the night.

Seeney again had a three pointer and was 2 of 2 from the line. Brock Rumer had a bucket. The bench took over, and here is where it got interesting. Lander Burkhalter hadabucketandafreethrow. Weaver had another bucket. Reid Patterson, Ty Jones, HudsonEverhard, andBlane Henry all had buckets. That was a 26-point fourth quarter explosion. The final, 70 to 30.

Box score: Cason had a very impressive 27 points, including four dunks. He was 3 of 4 from the line. He was followed by Seeney with 10, including two three pointers. Next was Ratzloff who had eight, he was a perfect 4 of 4 from the line. Walker was next with six followed by Weaver with four and Burkhalter who had three. Rumer, Everhardt, Jones, Patterson, Oliger, and Henry all had two points each.

Cason attributed the win to hard work.

“Wehadareallygoodweek of practice, and everyone was really working hard, and it showed tonight,” he said.

The Redskins get a break for the holidays and will return to the court at home in the New Years Classic on January 4.
