On Monday, February 14 2022, the Board of Education held their monthly meeting at the Administrative Center/ Board Room.

After calling the meeting to order, a roll call was held. Everyone but Mark Glenn was present, so the meeting then moved onto the agenda.

The first agenda discussed was the dress code, presented by Kevin Dill, a parent of a child attending Madill Public Schools.

Dill brought up many points about the dress code, one of them being that the dress code is too restrictive.

“I think that we’ve got a really restricted dress code for the kids,” Dill said. “I mean they’re not even allowed to wear a cap in the school building unless they buy the hat back on Fridays for $1. It goes to some kind of donation for charity, but then we’ve got faculty members dressing like they are. We need to rectify this situation before children get hurt.”

The board took Dill’s comments into consideration, but no action was made on it. The next item on the agenda was the consent agenda, which was approved.

Agenda item five was the discussion of the superintendent’s report and the principals report. Larry Case, superintendent, said they are bringing in 22 new HVAC’s this summer.

“Wednesday, we have someone coming in from PITSCO to look at our STEM room,” Case said. “Mrs. Gilbert and I are going to Ada on Wednesday February 16, 2022, to visit them and to see how we’ll equip them.”

Next year, Madill High School will have an Aviation and CAD program/elective where students can study for a pilot’s permit.

“The STEM industry has so many job opportunities for that, and it's just another thing we can do for our kids,” Case said.

Carol Combs, the board’s treasurer, reminded everyone that there will be a Region Book Team meeting next month at the Wildcat Den. The pre-meeting is at 5:30 p.m. for one Ethics credit, and the regular meeting is at 6:30 p.m. for two Ethics credits. The Madill Elementary principal Kristi Birdsong updated the board on the upcoming ACT.

“The ACT is coming up soon, and two ACT Prep trainings are next month,” Birdsong said. “The ECC in the Elementary building is busy looking and evaluating new reading curriculums for PreK-5th grade for next year. We’ve been ordering samples and going to book caravans. We hope to select the right one and a strong curriculum for our kids.”

Case made a note to say thanks and congratulations to Julia Page for becoming a small school All Stater.

The next agenda item discussed was the possible consideration and action to enter a contract with Jenkins & Kemper CPA’s for the 2021-2022 school year. The action was approved by the board.

Next was the discussion and action to approve the revised 2021-2022 calendar to adjust for a “No School” day taken on January 14, 2022, due to illness. The item was approved.

Agenda item eight was the discussion and possible action to approve the Title VI Indian parent Committee By-Laws. The action was approved. The board also approved Item nine on the agenda, the Indian Ed committee members.

The next two items on the agenda were the action to approve the revised Child Nutrition Procurement Plan, and the action to approve Elizabeth McCuistion for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year. Both agenda items were approved. Larry Case said, “It’s a blessing to have McCuistion.”

The last agenda item was the discussion to approve extra duty contracts Ashley Cooper, and Samantha Faulkner. The action was approved, and the meeting adjourned.
