I hope you were able to get to the Magnolia Festival in Durant last weekend as well as the Madill Sand Bass Festival. They were both wonderful as always.

A reminder that the “Open Arms Close Closet” will again be open at the Baldwin Boat storage #94 for those of you who would like to pick out some new summer clothes. They will be open Saturday, June 18 from 9:00 a.m. to noon.

On Tuesday, June 21, the Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. will again meet for their monthly meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome. I’m sure they will also discuss their success on the annual Golf Tournament held this past weekend. All are welcome.

We had a bit of a scare this past weekend down at Jurassic Park. Please be safe when consuming alcohol and playing near water. Accidents can happen. This incident turned out to be a happy ending.

Father’s Day comes around on Sunday, June 19. Maybe take dad out fishing or just relax for the day. First day of summer is June 21.

As July approaches, it is again time for our 20th annual Twin Ponds Golf Cart Regatta. The participants are to meet at 14288 Villa Lane (Twin Ponds Estates) on Saturday, July 2 at 6:30 p.m. Awards will be given to the three most patriotic and uniquely decorated golf carts. The parade leaves at 7:00 p.m., so be sure to come and give them your support.

On Sunday July 3, the 17th annual Mickey Brown Memorial Fishing Derby will again be held at Twin Ponds. This is for boys and girls one to 14 years of age. Registration is from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with the Derby starting at 7:00 p.m. Toys and prizes will be awarded in the various categories.

Also, there will be free hot dogs and water. After the derby, the kids can bring their box turtles for the 14th Annual Turtle Races. Also Sunday evening, fireworks will be going off at dusk in Lakewood Manor to conclude your weekend.

It has been extremely hot these last few weeks. Hydrate and stay indoors. Have a safe week.
