BCF: Reminder: Wear orange

Iwanttoremindeveryone if walking in the woods, that archery season began October 1 with the rifle season following October 14 and running through Dec. 31. So, be diligent in wearing your orange vests so the hunters can spot you clearly.

We’re hoping to find someone who will be interested in installing the Christmas lighting down at the Buncombe Creek Marina. Jack Ehmann has coveted that position now for approximately 10 years and has now retired. It takes helpers and a commitment to manage the lights, setup, and maintenance. I hope we find some interested parties who would be willing to take over this endeavor. It is a lot of fun, with the lighting and wiener roast that usually occurs the first Saturday after Thanksgiving.

I want to mention the 3rd Annual Meat Market Chili Cook-Off being held October 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Cottonwood and A Street, Soldier Creek. This is a fundraiser for the Kingston Alumni Scholarship Fund. There will be an auction, music by C7 Band and prizes. Be sure to attend.

A longtime resident, Jim Gentry has passed this past week. He served as the president oftheShayCommunity Center for the past several years. He had a good heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

TheBuncombeBabesRed Hat group will be meeting at Kings Buffet in Sherman at 11:00 am on Friday, November 4.

Halloween is fast approaching so all the kiddos will be out with their sacks trick or treating for candy. Also, Daylight Savings Time ends on November 6, so turn your clocks back an hour on Saturday night. Stay safe and have a good week!
