I hope all the fathers out there had an enjoyable day last Sunday as we celebrated the men in our lives. The days are long and hot these past few weeks with only a smidgeon of rain to speak of. Although the lake is up, the ground still needs more moisture.

It is almost time for the 4th of July celebrations in our area. There are many venues that speak of fireworks displays, be sure to get out and celebrate our independence.

The 20th Annual Twin Ponds Golf Cart Regatta with be taking off again this year. The participants are to meet at 14288 Villa Lane (Twin Ponds Estates) on Saturday, July 2 at 6:30. Awards will be given to the three most patriotic and unique decorated golf carts. The parade leaves at 7 p.m., so be sure to come and give them your support. Also, we have a new Grand Marshall to head up the procession. Who will it be this year?

On Sunday July 3, the 17th annual Mickey Brown Memorial Fishing Derby will again be held at Twin Ponds. This is for boys and girls ages one to 14. Registration is from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. with the Derby starting at 7 p.m.

Toys and prizes will be awarded in the various categories. Also, there will be free hot dogs and water.

After the derby, the kids can bring their box turtles for the 14th Annual Turtle Races. Also, Sunday evening, fireworks will be going off at dusk in Lakewood Manor to conclude your weekend.

The fishing is still great on Lake Texoma with most catching their limit quickly. I imagine the trips start out early and are over quickly due to the high heat.

The Buncombe Creek Marina is steadily working to rebuild the area of the RV park and surrounding area. When this is completed, I hear they will start getting the docks and slips back to normal.

I don’t have much news this week. Stay safe and cool.
