I know winter is just around the corner and I’m sure we’re all anxious for cooler days as relief from this scorching heat, but then it gets here with it’s fierce cold and flurries and we wish it were warmer. Such is Life.

I want to mention that I was invited to help celebrate 50 years of marriage for a local couple, Bill and Marty Stallings who live in Kingston. They celebrated at the Sonic Drive-In in Kingston with a Chili Dog and all the fixings. This was one of their favorite places, when they were young and falling in love, so they try to go back each year to celebrate. The Sonic did a fantastic job of decorating, providing the food and refreshments for this grand event.

A reminder that August 4 at 6:30 p.m., the Lake Texoma Assn. will host their annual “Bash for Cash” at Tanglewood Resort. Come by boat or drive over there for an entertaining evening and bid on their live and silent auction items, as well as a superb dining experience and dancing. Call 580-564-2334 for tickets.

On Thursday, August 11, the Shay Community Center will be hosting their Ice Cream Social at 6:30 p.m. They ask you to bring your favorite ice cream (homemade if possible) and the center will provide all the toppings. What a way to beat the heat. Everyone is welcome.

A Celebration of Life will be held for Jan Nutt at the Buncombe Creek Community Center, located in Perry Park August 6 at 4 p.m. Please come and share memories and join in helping to celebrate this sweet woman who will be deeply missed.

Jan has been residing in Wichita, Kan. for the past several years but was remembered for her smiles, bodacious attitude and a friend to all who knew her.

Stay cool during this heat and have a safe week.
