BCF: Happy Mother's Day

Summer is finally here. I hope you have planted that garden as the warm weather will have those sprouts popping up in no time.

Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 14, so I hope all you mothers will have a wonderful day, whether getting a phone call from your kids or just going out for dinner. I’m sure there are an assortment of venues around the area ready to serve a special dinner for your day.

BuncombeCreekhaslosta few of its longtime residents with the passing of Bob Ita on April 10 and Roy Matheny on May 6. They were both dear to my heart and loved by many.

Both Bob and Roy were active members in our local fire department. Roy served as Fire Chief for a several years. Prayers go out to their families at this time of loss.

The Fire Department is accepting applications for volunteer firefighters. Applicants must be at 18 years of age and up to the age of 45 for the pension system. If you are over the age of 45 you may still apply.

The Shay Community Center will again host their monthly potluck this Thursday, May 11 at 6 p.m. Bring your favorite dish and come and enjoy the fellowship of your fellow neighbors. Hope to see you there.

Next month, the dinner will be moved to June 15, to encourage everyone to go and enjoy the Sand Bass festival during that time.

The Open Arms Clothes Closet will be open on May 20 from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Baldwin Boat Storage Unit #94 for those of you interested in picking out some clothes of your liking. This is open to anyone interested or in need of clothing.

The last day of school for the Kingston children will be May 18 with graduation following on May 19. School is out so let the summer begin. Congratulations go out to all the seniors heading out on their journeys in life, Until next week, be safe.
