BCF: Burning of the socks

Time seems to be passing quickly, but the weather for January so far is certainly welcome. The days are getting longer and before one can blink, warm weather will prevail.

The Shay Community Center will be hosting their annual Appreciation Dinner on Thursday, January 12 at 6:30 p.m. The center is providing all the fixin’s, so come and share good tidings with neighbors.

For anybody who would like to join, it is only $7.50 per person per year. The center can also be rented the center for family gatherings or personal venues at a fair price. Hope to see everybody there.

As January approaches mid-month, the Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Department will again be hosting their monthly meeting on Tuesday, January 17 at 7:00 p.m. They will have a lot to talk about so be sure to attend. All are welcome.

The Open Arms Clothes Closet will be open on Saturday, January 21 from 88:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Ron’sBoatStorageShed#94. Thereissomethingforeveryone. Be sure to come down and see what is available.

Finally, there is information on the upcoming “Burning of the Socks” event that starts the summertime fun. The venue takes place at the Marina parking lot on Saturday, March 18.

There will be the Chili Cook Off at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Polar Plunge at 1:30 p.m. DJ Jess will be spinning tunes throughout the day and there will be a bounce house for the kids.

Guests can also enjoy eating hot dogs at the fire. Don’t forget to bring socks to toss into the fire and replace them with flip flops forthewarmersummerdays to come. This has become quite a large event and has been well received now for several years.
