We had a good turnout for the Annual Open House at the Buncombe Creek Volunteer Fire Dept. on Saturday, April 16 at 11:00 a.m. The main topic surrounded the disaster relief efforts following the recent tornado that swept through the area on March 22, 2022.

We h ad a few candidates show up to rally their positions in their efforts to run for office soon. Our local police department head as well as Daniel Nixon with the Emergency Management team shared their views on various topics. Also, it was announced that a key member, John Calloway will be moving away to follow a dream career of his own. He was honored with a Firemen's Helmet signed by all and a tearful speech by our very own fire chief, Scott Robinson.

On Saturday, April 16 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Friends of Buncombe Creek, led by a local group of women had the foresight to put on an Easter Egg Hunt. It was held at the fire station and was well received.

It was short notice, but these people worked tirelessly to accumulate the door prizes and eggs to create the best time for over 100 people who showed up. It was terrific and we thank all of you for putting in your time, monetary donations, and effort.

I think we can honestly say that spring is here. Coming up on Sunday, May 1, we find May Day, which is an ancient traditional holiday to celebrate spring. Some folks signifY the day with making up baskets with jams orfruits and leaving at neighbors' doors. Also, don't forget about Mother's Day coming next week, May 8.

The fishing here on Lake Texoma is still very good. The days and weekends are a flurry of activity here in Buncombe Creek with fishermen and guides catching their limits very quickly.

Be sure to keep Mother's Day in mind. Most of us will be honoring our mamas on this day with flowers and/or dinner out. May 19 is the last day of school for the Kingston children. Until next week, stay safe.
