Body

In 2002, Madill Public Schools had a total student count of 1,493 students enrolled in pre-k through 12th  grade. Just 15 years later, in 2017, a growth of 334 kids across the district had MPS with 1,827 students enrolled. The majority of our classes for the present school year average 130 students per grade. Our current gym was built in 1977 and seats 900. It is unable to hold our current 6th-12th grade student body. With that growth comes more opportunities of needs for our student population, as well as our community.

The past 6 years, our community has supported bonds for our school district. A combination of bond funds, an interest-bearing account of bond funds and building funds have helped allow district wide improvements. Safe rooms are provided at all sites, they serve as additional classrooms throughout the day. Vo-Ag classrooms were built and the shop completed later on. The new Middle School Building has fourteen class rooms, two sets of bathrooms, a conference room and offices. The annex was painted and new sidewalks poured. New lighting was installed at the football and soccer practice field. An awning was built at the baseball fields. Land was acquired east of the elementary school for parking and future growth along with 17 acres south of the Early Childhood Center. New vehicles were acquired for upgraded transportation. Other district wide improvements are additional parking lots at multiple sites, new fencing around three sites and a new elementary playground. Grounds were improved between the High School and Wildcat Den with sod laid and new sidewalks formed. The Band Room was painted. The Middle School Gym had an addition of 2 new locker rooms, a concession area and restrooms. The Wildcat Cage, formerly the armory was acquired and is used for classrooms and athletic practices. Softball batting cages were built and the wrestling room remodeled. The Wildcat Den had erosion damage and was restored. A new track and turf football/soccer field is being installed and will be completed soon. The Fine Arts building, due to be finished this spring, will hold two band rooms, a vocal music room, art room, and a speech room.

Going forward, we are presenting a bond proposal on September 10th.  Since we are not part of a Career Tech system,  a major component in the proposal of this bond is the STEM classrooms incorporated for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.  STEM has a wide range of academic disciplines that will offer new opportunities for our students to participate in. This will help our students be better prepared for college and careers in their future.  The proposal also includes a new event center for our students and community to host athletic games, tournaments, graduation seating of 1500 plus, concerts, plays and community events as needed.

With this bond proposal, a previous tax amount of $100 would be a yearly increase of $8.50 or $0.71 per month; or a tax amount of $200 would be a yearly increase of $17.00 or $1.42 per month.   We would appreciate your support going forward for our students of Madill Schools.
