Every human life is precious. As a father of six, I cannot express enough how precious the lives of innocent children are. From the moment of conception, each child is worthy of life and protection from harm.
When it comes to protecting the lives of children, we have a moral obligation to protect those who cannot protect themselves. In the 116th Congress, I have continued my work to safeguard the rights of the unborn and those who survive a botched abortion.
It has been 47 years since Roe vs. Wade, a landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, was decided. I recently joined 207 bipartisan lawmakers in signing an amicus brief asking the U.S Supreme Court to overturn Roe vs. Wade when they hear a new case later this year. Overturning this decision will save thousands of innocent lives every year.
Infants who survive an abortion deserve the same immediate medical care as any other infant and I was proud to cosponsor legislation that would do that. House Republicans have gone to the House floor and demanded a vote on H.R. 962, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act more than 80 times. Each time, House Democrats rejected the Republican motion to consider the bill.
At the end of this week, hundreds of thousands of Americans will travel to Washington to take part in the annual March for Life. It is always inspiring to see so many, especially young people, come out in support of life. I stand with those who have come to march, and I stand firm in my conviction that life begins in the womb.
We, as Americans, have the moral, ethical, and personal responsibility to be the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. I will never stop fighting in Congress for the lives of unborn children all across our country.
