As of last Friday, the annual District Work Period has begun. While many confuse this time as “vacation” for Congress, that couldn’t be further from the truth. I want to set the record straight: this time is very valuable to my colleagues and I as members of Congress. We utilize this time to converse with our constituents, visit small businesses in the district, check in with local police and fire departments, connect with military leaders, and more.
This time each year is something I greatly value, as it allows me to learn more about how I can better represent Oklahoma’s Fourth District up in Washington. For instance, just this week, I will travel toAdatomeetwithlawenforcement professionals, visit Newcastle to tour the Love’s and meet with the mayor, attend the Variety Care grand opening in Norman, and head to Oklahoma City for some media appearances – and this is just week one. Throughout the month of August, I will travel every mile of theFourthDistrictsothatIcanhear opinions from every community in my district.
I really do cherish this time each year and I look forward to taking the ideas and conversations I have throughoutthisnextmonthbackup to Washington, D.C. with me. The AugustDistrictWorkPeriodistruly so valuable, as I know my duty as Representative is to represent those who elected me.
