Giving blood can seem scary or time-consuming, but it's essential for daily life. The Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) hosted a blood drive on July 7, 2022.

It was held at the First United Bank in Kingston, Okla. Donations were accepted from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Donors received gifts for their time and donations. The gifts were an All-American t-shirt and their choice of free tickets to Oklahoma Science Museum, Frontier City, or Safari Joes.

The OBI had 33 individuals sign up to donate blood, with 30 donating. Michelle McQuire, the Senior Account Manager said the donations were needed.

“While we had a goal of 33 donations today, we’re thankful for all donations and look forward to the next blood drive,” McQuire said.

Blood donations are crucial to hospitals all around the world. According to Givingblood.org, 43,000 pints of blood are needed daily in the United States and Canada alone. It was also reported that 4.5 million Americans will need a blood transfusion yearly.
