Professional golfer Tiger Woods was seriously injured in a car wreck this week. The incident began at approximately 7:12 a.m. on February 23, 2021 when Los Angeles Sheriff Department were dispatched to an accident.

It was a “single vehicle roll-over collision on the border of Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes,” according to law enforcement.

According to the report, the vehicle was traveling northbound on Hawthorne Road, where it meets Blackhorse Road when it crashed. The vehicle and the driver, Woods had significant damage.

Woods had to be extricated from the vehicle with the ‘jaws of life’ by Los Angeles County firefighters and paramedics. After they pulled him out, Woods was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Officials said they are unclear to what caused the accident and are currently investigating. Law enforcement said they do not believe alcohol was involved but it is unclear whether any other substance was the cause.

Woods was in town to attend his annual Genesis Invitational golftournament being held at the Riviera Country club in the Pacific Palisades.

Wood’s agent, Mark Steinberg announced that Woods sustained multiple leg injuries from the accident and it currently undergoing surgery.

Woods was involved in another high-profile car accident in 2009. He crashed his SUV at his home in Florida. In 2017, was arrested for a DUI after a traffic stop. According to the report, he was found to have five different drugs in his system. They were listed as Hydrocodone, an opioid pain medication; Hydromorphone, another type of painkiller; Alprazolam, an anxiety drug also under the brand name Xanax; Zolpidem, a sleep drug also under the brand name Ambien; and Delta-9 carboxy THC, which is found in marijuana.

According to the arresting officer, Woods was found asleep at the wheel with his brake lights illuminated and his right blinker on, and the officer had trouble getting him to wake up.

The report also noted there was fresh damage to the passenger side of his Mercedes.
