Texas showdown in Oklahoma

Another chapter in college softball history was written at Devon Park as the 2026 NCAA Women’s College World Series delivered two weeks of dramatic finishes, standout performances and packed crowds in the nation’s softball capital. The
tournament, held annually at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, once again brought the best teams in the country together to compete for a national championship.

The event has been hosted in Oklahoma City for more than three decades and remains one of the city’s premier sporting attractions.

This year’s championship series featured an all-Texas showdown as the Texas Longhorns softball faced the Texas
Tech Red Raiders softball in a best-of-three series.

The Longhorns entered the finals after surviving the elimination bracket and defeating Tennessee twice in one day to earn its third consecutive appearance in the championship round.

Texas Tech advanced after knocking off Alabama behind dominant pitching from ace NiJaree Canady.

The championship series belonged to the Longhorns who opened the finals with a 7-3 victory in Game 1 before returning the following night to secure a 4-1 win and complete the two-game sweep. The title marked the Longhorns’ second consecutive national championship and further cemented the program’s place among the sport’s elite.

Texas’ journey to the title was far from easy. After dropping its opening Women’s College World Series game, the Longhorns battled through the loser’s bracket and won a string of elimination games to keep their championship hopes alive. Along the way, standout pitching performances, timely hitting and solid defense helped propel the team back to the top of college softball.

Texas Tech, meanwhile, enjoyed one of the finest seasons in school history.

The Red Raiders reached the championship series behind the dominant arm of Canady and a resilient roster that repeatedly responded under pressure throughout the postseason. Their run to the finals further elevated a program that has rapidly become a national contender.

The 2026 Women’s College World Series featured eight teams battling for the national title, including Alabama, Tennessee, Nebraska, UCLA, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Texas and Texas Tech. The tournament showcased the growing popularity of women’s softball, drawing national television audiences and thousands of fans to Oklahoma City.

For Oklahoma City, the event once again reinforced its reputation as the home of championship softball. Devon Park, which seats approximately 13,000 fans, serves as the permanent home of the Women’s College World Series and has become synonymous with the sport’s biggest stage.

As the final out was recorded and Texas celebrated another national championship, attention quickly turned toward next season. With the Women’s College World Series scheduled to return to Devon Park in 2027, Oklahoma City will once again welcome the nation’s best softball teams in pursuit of college softball’s ultimate prize.
