Redskins return home after massive win

Coming off a huge win to open district play, the Kingston Redskins return for their first home game since August when they host Okmulgee Friday night.

The Redskins are fresh off a massive28-14victoryatKiefer that gives them the early leg up in District 3 play, upping their overall record to 3-1 in the process.

In that battle of Top 10 state foes, Kingston built a 21-0 lead through three quarters after taking control early on behind 257 yards of total offense from senior quarterback Reid Patterson.

“We played really well, started fast and were very physical in all areas,” Kingston head coach Brad Hill said. “We knew how important that matchup was going to be in the district race. Reid had a great game and so did our receivers and our line. Kiefer started packing the box against our running game and we had some big plays through the air.

“Our defense was just so physical against Kiefer’s strong rushing attack. We created a turnover the one time they drove deep in our territory in the first half. Kiefer is a good football team. It was a really big win that could have huge implications. It was a playoff type atmosphere and we definitely handled this one a lot better than the Fairview game.”

Kingston wasted little time injumpingintocommand, taking theiropeningpossession65 yards in five plays for a twoyard Patterson scoring run. Parks Ratzlaff had a monster 40-yard burst for the biggest play of the drive.

The Redskins tacked on another touchdown just over a minute into the second period after marching 84 yards. Patterson capped the drive with a five-yard scoring toss to Hudson Everhart.

Kingston’s defense bent but did not break late in the half as Kiefer maneuvered into the red zone but a Trojan fumble was covered by Patterson in the end zone for a touchback and ultimately a 14-0 lead at intermission.

The passing game caught fire again late in the third stanza as Patterson hit a wide open Hudson Everhart for a 68-yard touchdown and 21-0 cushion. Ratzlaff chipped in a two-yard scoring blast in the fourth period for the final Redskin points.

Patterson completed eight of 13 passes for 156 yards and the two touchdowns, which were also Everhart’s two catches on the night. Jaksyn Martin snagged three passes for 63 yards as well.

A 101-yard rushing effort 19 carries by Patterson also spurred the rushing attack whileRatzlafftallied80yards on 15 totes. Logan Stephens ran five times for 33 yards and Boen Proctor notched 25 yards on two carries.

Kingston posted a total of 410 yards on 55 plays from scrimmage.

The Redskin focus now shifts to an athletic Okmulgee squad as they get back home for the first time in five weeks.

“Okmulgee has really good athletes with speed,” Hill added. “We can’t have a letdown. We are glad to be back home for the first time since August 29. It’s exciting to finally not have to travel and play at our stadium.”
