Ladies advance
The Lady Redskins met the Jones Longhorns on March 5, 2021. This was one of those games that one could not help but peek up the bracket and see it coming. Jones is an opponent that Coach Chad Rumer and the Lady Redskins know well. Flashback to last season to where the Longhorns contributed to Kingston’s demise in the playoffs.
This season they have been ranked the #2 team in Class 3A all season long. They are tall, three girls over six feet tall, and they shoot well and are well coached. The positive aspect is the Lady Redskins do not have to win this one to get to the state tournament. Both teams being regional champs only need to win one game to advance to the State Fair Arena. The Lady Redskins lost to Jones, 66 to 31.
The game summary will be like this; Jones lead after one quarter, 16 to 9. At the half, the lead was 30 to 19. At 5:08 in the third quarter, trailing 41 to 21. Coach Rumer sat the starters down and turned it over to the bench to finish the game.
Rumer’s strategy made sense. They did not have to win this game; they need to win the rest. A rested and healthy team would be needed on March 6.
