Coach Taylor Weibner’s Redskins were coming off a one-point win at Atoka January 5, 2021. The Redskins insist on making each game exciting. They did not disappoint, because they won this one, 54 to 51.

In first quarter action, the Talihina boys did not look like they had suffered a long bus ride. In fact, they looked fresh as a daisy. Dakota (Microwave) Weibner had the three pointers going. He hit two and Brady Brister added one of his own. Braden Matchen continued to impress with two field goals and Jesse Rose added a free throw. Even with all the effort in the first quarter, the Redskins still found themselves trailing by one – 15 to 14.

Brister had a fine quarter in the second. He continued his good start with three field goals and was 2 of 2 from the line. Tucker Rumer had a field goal and Jase Hays added a free throw. Once again, the Redskins found themselves trailing, now by four, 29 to 25.

The third quarter had Brister and Matchen getting field goals underneath. Weibner showed he was not finished and hit another three-pointer. Hayes added a free throw. Rounding out the third quarter, the Redskins only trailed by just three points, 37 to 34. The fourth quarter is when

The fourth quarter is when the fireworks happened. The Redskins shot out of the gate and by the time Talihina called a time out, at the 7:33 mark, the home team had grabbed the lead. The score now was 38 to 37, advantage Redskins. Everyone was pitching in. Weibner hit again from three-point range, his fourth of the night. Hays had two field goals and two free throws. Brister, Rose, Matchen, Marshall Ludrick and Reid Cason all had field goals. Talihina used another timeout, this time at 2:53 to go. Now, Talihina were trailing 49 to 45. At the 1:00 minute mark, the lead for the Redskins was by five points – 52 to 47. The Redskins held on to post the 54 to 51 victory.

Box Score: Brister had 14 points and was 3 of 4 from the line, Weibner had 12 points all coming from three-point range, he was 0 for 2 from the line. Matchen was next with nine points and was 1 of 3 from the line. Hayes had eight points and was 4 of 7 from the line. Rose finished with three points on a field goal and a free throw. Ludrick had two points and was 0 for 2 from the line. Cason had a field goal for two points.

The Redskins moved on in the winner’s bracket to face Broken Bow who trounced Latta.
