Nickolas Northcutt

Nick Northcutt is a senior basketball player at Madill High School who was recently named the All-District Wide Receiver of the Year for the Madill football team. His proud parents are Jayson and Nikki Northcutt. He has two siblings, Nathan and Jaysa Northcutt.

Being a transplant and moving to Madill two years ago, he has played football and basketball since moving to Madill. He even played baseball his freshman and sophomore years of high school in Tishomingo.

Northcutt is a member of the Oklahoma Honor Society, National Honor Society, as well as Oklahoma Indian Honor Society. He is currently the Madill FFA Reporter, a football captain, and FCA leader. He attends the Madill First Baptist Church youth group and is a member of the United Church of Tishomingo.

He said moving to a new town and being uprooted from the school his family attended was tough.

“My biggest challenge has been moving from a town where my entire family has gone to high school to a place where I knew very little about and didn’t know anyone,” Northcutt said. “My favorite memory in sports since I’ve been here is winning the Marshall County Superbowl against Kingston.”

He attributes some of his success to his coaches.

“Coach Frederick inspired me to be a better basketball player and most importantly a better person,” Northcutt said. “He taught me how a team is supposed to work and just how much a team can grow together and improve.”

“I would just like to thank my coaches for giving me a chance,” he continued. “I came in at the last minute and they all welcomed me with open arms and let me become a part of the family.”

Northcutt said that he has the utmost respect for Coach Speer.

“I went from not wanting to play football at all to moving a town over because of a coach who cared,” he said. “That is all that it took for me. Coach Speer is a great example of what a leader should be, constantly leading from in front and doing everything he can for the team. And Coach Weiberg is always willing to go up to the gym with me and put me through a workout no matter what he has going on and is a huge mentor in my life. He is someone that I will always look up to as a great example of what a man is supposed to look like.”

Northcutt stated that his parents have constantly put up with his hard headedness and have been his biggest supporters.

“Both of my parents have always pushed me to be the best possible person I can be and trust in the Lord and his plan for me,” Northcutt said. “Thank you for going to every one of my games and cheering me on no matter how big the hassle it is to be there.”

After high school, Northcutt plans to attend college then later start a family. His advice to the younger class is to “find something and put your all into it and not letting yourself regret not giving it your all.”
