Big things are on the horizon in the Big 12 conference. The University of Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma State University Cowboys have multiple players selected into the All-Big 12 Football preseason team.

The All-Big 12 Conference Football Preseason team is an annual selection of players who are destined to perform well for the next season. The players are voted by officials from the Big-12 Conference.

The Sooners have two players selected for the team, while the Cowboys have three players picked out. The big announcement was revealed July 6, 2022.

The Sooners who were chosen were Michael Turk and Dillon Gabriel. Turk, a fifth-year senior, was selected for the All-Big 12 punter award. Gabriel is a junior quarterback who won the Newcomer of the Year honor after transferring from the University of Central Florida to join the Sooners.

The Cowboys had Spencer Sanders, Collin Oliver, and Jason Taylor make the team. Sanders is a redshirt senior who received the conference quarterback achievement.

A redshirt athlete is an athlete that did not compete in games for the team for one year, but still practiced with the team. Redshirts are normally for athletes that need another year of development athletically and mentally.

Oliver plays defensive linemen for OSU and was one of the four defensive linemen who were selected, despite only being a sophomore. Taylor is a redshirt senior defensive back who was one of the five picked for the All-Big 12 defensive backs.

The Sooners downgraded a huge amount compared to the 2021 All-Big 12 Conference preseason. In 2021, they had nine football players make the team. The Sooners will look to prove their doubters wrong for the 2022 college football season.

OSU improved slightly compared to the 2021 preseason. They only had two football players make the cut for the 2021 conference team. Can the Cowboys stay on this upward trend for their upcoming football season?

Although it is called the Big 12 Conference, it actually only consists of 10 NCAA Division One schools. The conference consists of Baylor, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Texas Christian, Texas, Texas Tech, and West Virginia.

With college football starting in less than two months, will these players for the Sooners and Cowboys live up to their preseason hype?
