Lucia Camacho, an 18-year-old senior at Madill High School, has left an indelible mark on her school and community through her dedication and passion for soccer. Raised by her mother, Guadalupe Camacho, and with her grandparents Angel Rodriguez and Amada Ibarra as her support system, her journey has been shaped by the love and guidance of her family.

Throughout her time at Madill, Comacho has been a consistent presence in the school’s soccer program. As the captain of the Madill High School soccer team, she has displayed strong leadership skills and a commitment to excellence.
While Comacho said she does not have a specific favorite memory on the field, she cherishes the time spent with her teammates, finding joy in the camaraderie and laughter that they shared, even over the smallest things.

However, Comacho’s soccer journey faced a significant setback when she experienced an ACL injury. In moments of despair and frustration, she said she contemplated quitting the sport she loved.

It was her physical therapist, Dennis Thompson, who became her pillar of strength during her recovery. Not only did he provide the necessary physical support, but he also offered the mental and emotional encouragement Comacho needed to push through the challenges. With Thompson’s unwavering support, Comacho said she found the strength to continue playing and is grateful for the impact he has had on her life. According to Comacho, her mother has been a constant source of inspiration for her.
Guiding her with invaluable life lessons, Guadalupe has taught Comacho the importance of resilience, determination and kindness. Comacho said she aspires to emulate her mother’s strength and compassion, hoping to grow up to be the same kind of person her mother is.

In addition to her family, Comacho acknowledged the support of her coach, Coach Cortes. Despite not being able to play due to her injury, Coach Cortes recognized Comacho’s dedication and allowed her to remain an integral part of the team. Comacho said this act of inclusion and support meant the world to her, as it made her feel valued and appreciated.
Looking towards her future, Comacho said she has set her sights on attending Murray State College. Her goal is to become an X-Ray Technician, where she can combine her passion for healthcare and helping others.

As Comacho prepares to embark on the next chapter of her life, she offers valuable advice to her younger classmates. She said she encourages them to embrace every moment and have fun, recognizing the unpredictability of life. Comacho’s words serve as a reminder to cherish the present and make the most of every opportunity that comes their way.
