The Madill Lady Wildcats are preparing for a new season as the beginning of the school year nears. New head coach Jared Hayes said he will look to boost the Lady Wildcats to a new level and build a great team atmosphere.

The Lady Wildcats will begin their season on August 8 as they will travel to Ada to play Sulphur. That game will start at 7:45 p.m. August 9 will be their first home game when they compete against Pauls Valley. This will also be Madill’s first district game and will begin at 5 p.m.

Hayes said he is proud of his players and staff for the upcoming season. He only has 12 players on the team, but isn’t intimidated by that small amount.

“Each one of them has worked really hard and has a great work ethic,” Hayes said.

Hayes said there aren’t any standout athletes quite yet, but he looks toward his two seniors to help mentor the younger members of the team. Shawn Runyan will be the assistant coach for the softball team.

The main goal Hayes has for his team this season is to improve every day.

“I want our girls to compete in every game and do it at a high level,” Hayes stated.

He said building confidence is a key to contributing success for Madill. Hayes feels that if he builds enough confidence within the team, they have the talent to win the district and compete at regionals.

As far as the games for the upcoming season, Hayes chooses to not look toward the future ones. “We’re just going game by game, especially since we only have 12 girls,” said Hayes.

One intriguing game for fans would be the Kingston vs. Madill game. Hayes coached at Kingston for eight years, but he doesn’t look at this game personally.

“Obviously we want to win this game, but this isn’t a game we look forward to the entire season and check mark it down.”

The Kingston vs. Madill matchup will take place on September 27. They will play at Madill and it will begin at 4:30 p.m.

The biggest question everyone has for the Lady Wildcats is how will they perform this season?
