Lady Redskins v Bulldogs

The gymnasium at Sulphur High School is not a place that brings back good memories to the Lady Redskins and Coach Chad Rumer. However, it feels much better on the ride home after a win. On February 5, 2021, the Lady Redskins won against the Sulphur Bulldogs. The final score was 58 to 36.

First quarter action had scoring from five players, this is typically a good way to start a game. That added with a good defensive effort and that makes a 14 to 4 lead at the buzzer. Avri Weeks was 1 of 2 from the line. Ryan Herndon hit a three and a field goal, Emi O’Steen had two field goals. Raegan Davis and Kaya Weibner each had field goals.

The scoring in the second quarter was not as spread out. Herndon had two more three-pointers. Kamry Bohannon had a nice three and had a free throw. O’Steen was 3 of 4 from the free throw line. The Lady Redskins were still in command with a 10-point lead going into the locker room.

Third quarter action had Weeks getting busy. She had five buckets and was 2 of 2 from the line. Herndon had another three and had a field goal. Weeks was controlling the boards and hitting Herndon with long outlet passes that were leading to layups on the other end. O’Steen added another field goal. Bohannon was getting to the line for free throws by driving inside. She was 2 of 3. The lead had swelled to 48 to 25 going into the fourth.

There would be no giving up a lead in the fourth quarter. Herndon was on the receiving end of a couple more of those long outlet passes from Weeks. She had two more field goals, and was 1 of 2 from the line. Weeks was 2 of 2 from the line. Chloe Cargol had a field goal as well. Ladies put it on cruise control for a 58 to 36 win.

Box score: Herndon had her best effort scoring, she had four three pointers, four two point field goals and was 1 of 2 from the line for a total of 21 points. Weeks with 15 points, 5 of 6 from the line. She was probably in double figures on rebounds, had several blocks and had several assists. O’Steen with a nice game had three field goals and was 3 of 4 from the line for 9 points. Bohannon was next with 6 points and she was 3 of 5 from the line. Weibner finished with 3 points and Davis and Cargol each with two points. As a team, the Lady Redskins were 12 of 19 for 63%.
