The Kingston Lady Redskins played two scrimmage games against the Thackerville Wildcats on July 21. The Redskins won the games and they provided great practice for both teams. Kingston’s Middle School team had an outstanding performance winning 14 to 0. KHS won their game 10 to 9 after going into overtime.

KMS softball showed their talent, leaving the opposition scoreless the entire game. Thackerville was only able to manage several base hits. Kingston dominated as they scored five runs in the first inning. The second inning brought three runs for the Lady Redskins and they continued to score the rest of the game. After five innings, the game was over and KMS softball looked spectacular.

KHS had a spectacular game, as well when it ended with a walk-off win. The game was back and forth with Kingston holding a four-run lead at one point.

First baseman Brookelyn Mandrigues and pitcher Amberly Hallum played well for the Lady Redskins. Mandrigues is a senior on the team. Hallum is a freshman and this was her debut in fast-pitch softball.

The beginning of the game was close with the Wildcats in the lead, three to two, at the end of the second inning. In the next inning, Hallum pitched a no hitter. When the Lady Redskins came to bat, they scored five runs. This left the game seven to three with Kingston in the lead.

The Wildcats scored six more runs in the next three innings. Kingston’s outfield struggled with several missed catches, allowing the Wildcats to catch up in points. Kingston answered back but only scored twice during those innings.

At the end of the sixth inning, the game was tied, nine to nine. Both teams showed signs of exhaustion because the game neared the three-hour mark. Even though Hallum had a tall order in winning this game for the Lady Redskins, she was successful.

Because the Wildcats did not score in overtime, it gave Kingston an opportunity to win the game. The bases were loaded and then Kingston made the winning run. The hit was only a single, but that was enough for junior AJ Stepp to make the winning run..
