Kingston exploded for the game’s first 34 points and cruised the rest of the way for a 48-6 thumping of Hugo to wrap up the district championship.
Coach Brad Hill’s squad will remain home this week for Senior Night when they host Roland on Friday night in their final playoff tune-up.
The Redskins scored the first five times they touched the football offensively, including four times on the ground and once through the air. They finished the game with 466 total yards on 34 plays from scrimmage.
Parks Ratzlaff hit paydirt on the first two, carrying eight and seven yards for touchdowns to cap solid drives. Reid Patterson found a wide open Ty Jones for a 58-yard touchdown and 20-0 advantage with just 21 seconds left in the period.
LoganStephenscontinued the avalanche with a 37-yard touchdown burst and Patterson rumbled 35 yards for his own rushing score with 7:01 still to play in the half.
Following a Hugo touchdown, Patterson went back to the air and connected with Ratzlaff on a 50-yard catch and run to the end zone. A 24-yard scoring toss from Patterson to Hudson Everhart early in the third frame capped the scoring as the Kingston defense once again throttled the highpowered Hugo offense from nearly start to finish.
“I was really proud of our defense,” Hill commented. “Thecoacheshadagreatplan and our kids executed great. We played really well. Holding them to one score with an offense as explosive as they are was huge.
“We wanted to start fast. We were very efficient in the passing game and hit some big plays. Lot of kids ran the ball hard and the line created holes. It was exciting to be back home and secure the district championship.”
Patterson threw the football only six times, completing five for 169 yards and the three touchdowns. Ethan Mowels hit one pass for 12 yards.
Eight Kingston backs all notched rushing attempts in the contest led by Patterson’s 72 yards on three carries.
Stephens ran five times for 54 yards, Ratzlaff had five carries for 46 yards, Boen Proctor ran three times for 45 yards, Jaksyn Martin posted 40 yards on two totes and Kelly Gray added four carries for 24 yards.
Ratzlaffsnaggedtwopasses for 79 yards, Jones had one grab for 58 yards and Everhart pitched in two receptions for 32 yards. Lander Burkhalter contributed one catch for 12.
The Redskins improved to 8-1 on the season and will be looking to extend their win streak to eight straight on Friday at home with the final regularseasonhomegamefor a large group of key seniors.
“We want to make sure and honor our seniors,” Hill said. “Obviously we want to get out of the game healthy and clean up some mistakes. We need to play well and go into the playoffs on a roll. The goal for us was to be undefeated in district and we have that chance this week. Finishing first allows us to play at home until the semifinals if you can continue winning.”
